  • Injury, grief, and lawsuit proofing on Halloween

I bet I'm not the only one who removes all plants, pots, and movable items from the front porch on Halloween. I scan over the front yard to make sure there is nothing that might trip a child or be unstable. The number one item to remove this year is the potted tangerine tree. It has little orange fruit on it. I can see how it would really tempt a kid in this non-citrus growing area. It's also loaded with spike-like thorns. I don't want it damaged and I don't want kids piercing their little hands, so away it goes.

Oh yeah, I'll turn on the porch light well before dark.

Anyone else do any outdoor Halloween clean-up or consider placement of decorations with regard to kid safety?

My town has specific hours for Halloween that end b/4 dark. Anyone out later is at their own risk.

Also, like the last several years, family is gathering at DD1 & grands will be going out w/a group of adults while several adults mind the house (& dinner).

I host a haunted woods through my backyard for the neighborhood. Every year I call my homeowners insurance to make sure I'm covered for everything (and to make sure the rules haven't changed). As long as I don't charge admission I don't need a rider. But it is definitely something to think about.

I really wondered about insurance when I saw two homeowners on a nearby tree lined street had camp style fires in their front yards. All those oak leaves on the sidewalk and gutter!

The kids were cute last night.

Never gave it a thought. We have sidewalks on our street and a sidewalk up to our front door. Really no obstacles to worry about. And there are street lights plus our house lights so everything is pretty well lit.
