How much will you spend this Halloween on everything including candy, costumes, decorating, etc? Do you do anything unusual for the holiday?

Re: How much will you spend on Halloween?

costume for DS was cheap, safety pins and a cloak of DHs, plus a lightsaber (7$ - his money)

DD was a bit more complicated, posterboard .88cents, clear salad bowl 3$, white shirt, and pink pants (long story, they didn't have white) 9$ (but usable after halloween.) And if DH's memory is wrong we wil have to go get silver paint. (mostly her money, she ran out though)

    BBY3 free, already own a blanket .

DS will be a Jedi, DD R2D2, and BBY3 'baby Luke'

Now the candy to give away was about 20$ and if there is any left after my really cranky and tired of being pregnant self gets done I will be impressed .

So total 40$ (9 of which is neccessary winter clothes usable)

One thing we've learned in our household is to buy trick-or-treat candy as late as possible. Otherwise we eat it all and have to buy more.

Oh, you mentioned something unusual for Halloween... We're not doing this, but we got a flyer in our mailbox from a neighbor asking permission to knock on our door for a Halloween scavenger hunt. Here's the cool part: When the team comes over they will hand us a digital camera. Instead of us giving away items, we take pictures of them, and hand them back the camera. It's a great idea -- I wish I would've thought of it...

Well middle dd wants to be a witch I have found a costume for $7, youngest dd will be something I already have so no money for that she is 20 months so she is not as picky as the older sisters & the oldest I am not sure but I know its something I will have to buy & hoping its cheap!!! I did get a book from the library how to make your own halloween costumes they had tons of cute ideas that were very simple but of course my kids pick the only 2 things in the whole book that have to be sewed. I figure with cost of fabric & everything it will be better just to buy them.

We'll be spending about 20 bucks for the candy. We try to make our own costumes to save money!

Re: How much will you spend on Halloween?

So far, I've spent $1.06 for a couple of decorated trick or treat bags at the Dollar Store. I'll save one back for next year, and use the other one to "wrap" a container of my daughter's favorite homemade decorated sour cream sugar cookies, which I will mail to her at college - maybe another $4-5 for priority mail. There are no young children living in our rural area, so no trick or treaters. I do buy some Hallow'een candy, but I keep the candy dish filled for Pop's sweet tooth anyway, so I won't count that.

Re: How much will you spend on Halloween?

considering we don't celebrate halloween since it is against our religon the only thing I spend money on is buying candy for the kiddos who come by our house so maybe $10 total!!

Re: How much will you spend on Halloween?

I will spend about $20 putting together a fab costume for my CJ...then we will contribute about $50 in candy towards our church's Harvest Festival. It's a carnival celebration where the kids can get candy in a safe environment.

Re: How much will you spend on Halloween?

We are reusing our costumes from the past several years-so no cost there.

I have a scare crow plus a couple of plastic pumpkins that I put up.

                      Candy will probably be $15

Re: How much will you spend on Halloween?

We spend absolutely nothing on Halloween per se, But my hubby may spend some money on me as it is my birthday. We usually go out to eat and miss the trick or treaters. I'm an old sourpuss at times about some of the trick or treaters, such as grown women coming up with bags to "get candy for the baby"--baby too little to trick or treat for themselves, they're too little for candy. Pre-teen and teenage boys coming up trick or treating smoking cigarettes--Old enough to smoke, too old for trick or treating--you should have seen their jaws drop! Anyhow, I no longer stay home so avoid it all. I am amazed at how much people will spend in decorations etc.

                          zero.
we make our own costumes. we are not home on halloween night, so we are not there to give out candy. we always go to a fall festival that our church hosts that night. the kids (and parents) all attend in costumes, and play games.

My mom makes DD her costume each year, so no cost there. I'm not sure if I'll dress up this year or not. If I do, I'll make something. We have thrown a Halloween party for DD and some friends the past cuple of years, but we're not this year. We've been invited to one anyway, so it works out well. We'll buy candy to give out, but we don't get many kids at our house, so we can get by with one bag of candy, two tops.

                              Happy birthday! (A bit early)

A bet some of those parents with babies really just want to show off the kid, I went when DS was too young with another woman and kid (old enough kid) I turned down lots of candy (ok so I took my favorite brands .) I just wanted to show off my kid in his oh so cute costume . Even now niether kid gets to eat much candy, But they love showing off and taling to the neighbors.
