  • Has Anyone Been to a Flea Market Lately?

So I went to a flea market today for the first time in quite a while and I noticed two main things: one, I can buy exceptional produce at a fair price, and it's generally non-industrialized and two, that there is TONS of junk available for cheap at these markets. Most of the stuff that was being sold, other than sunglasses, really was just some item that would be bought and put somewhere in my home...and thus just generally add to the clutter. There was anything really of value there, to me.

Has anyone been to a flea market lately where they really saw a good deal on something that was useful?

I don't know about useful but I found a cool amethyst geode cathedral at the swap meet....beautiful purple crystals inside..i used it to decorate my new house. I bartered the guy down to a hundred bucks, these things sell online door $400-$500 easy plus shipping for smaller, less attractive ones!

I rarely go to them, but when I do, I base my purchase on whether I can use the product to make money. Flea markets are mostly business, I prefer garage sales.

The flea markets near us have way too many people selling new stuff such as furniture. My favorite deals though are the $1 places where I got these awesome giant bowls that I used through college. They were great for stir fry.

I like flea markets that are mostly private folks selling their personal items. I don't care for flea markets that are a bunch of professional dealers selling new merchandise or regular dealers who have the same stuff week after week. That's why I tend to prefer yard sales at this point as the flea markets are more and more dealers and fewer and fewer private sellers.

I go to the large Flea Mkt in our city in late August & Sept. because local gardeners sell their over abundance of produce for realistic prices. A couple of retired guys operate a 'watch clinic' and replace batteries while you wait, charging only a couple of bucks.

I LOVE flea markets. Last month I found a beautiful oak antique dresser and a Frida Kahlo bed-spread
