Reagan insider: GOP destroyed economy - MarketWatch

    GOP Destroyed the Economy

  • #2
Well, I don't know about the details, but it should be noted up-front that it's a commentary article. Marketwatch (The Wall Street Journal) has, on a regular basis, posted some pretty bearish, if not apocalyptic commentaries in the past, and this one is no different.

I think it ignors that democrats were the majority party most of the time in question. I have my distastes for some of Reagan and the Bush's policies, but dems have their share of bloody hands.

It all comes down to too much government, period. Our government has beome nothing more than compromise that leads contiuously towards bankruptcy and socialism. We do not get the best representation, we get mediocracy. This is why the federal government should stay to its enumerated responsibilities, which do not include the needs of the individual.

Are we headed for collapse? I don't know. As an christian, I cannot rule out the predictions for the apocalypse, it looks more and more possible with time.

I truly agree with the idea that a 24 hour newscycle has distracted us as a nation from having serious discussions about important issues - leaving everything to soundbytes and 'old news' is anything that happened 3 days ago and thus irrelevant. I would love to see a little more journalism and a lot less speculation and opinion.

The rest is one man's opinion - take it or leave it....

          I doubt it.

People have been incorrectly using Scripture to justify their political opinions for years.

You can probably find articles out there for each of the past 10 presidents where someone was claiming they were the Anti-christ. Obviously they can't all be.

The Bible says there will be an Anti-christ one day. That doesn't mean that every president you don't agree with politically is the Anti-christ.

I think the same holds true for claims of politicians that others are creating the Apocalypse. The Apocalypse will happen one day, yes. But is it because the democrats have a different view on how to stimulate the economy? Really??

          I doubt it.

Last time I checked, politicians are not prophets. Maybe they should leave predicting the future to others.

Everyone knows that Dick Cheney is the anti-christ. Look it up, it's all over the interwebs!

Seriously though, the discussion going around is the GOP philosophy of totally unregulated markets versus some regulation. Of course, the Wall Streeters want a totally free hand. Even Alan Greenspan has come out saying that some regulations of the financial industry are in order.

You can't keep betting the farm that everyone will behave themselves!

Probably not true. Economies are a lot larger and more complex than the poilitcal party that happens to be in power at the time of some economic event.
