I've done some googling, and apparently I've received my Making Work Pay refund today. I was not expecting this refund check, and what's more confusing is the amount...
The check is for $755.61 ($750 refund and $5.61 in interest). Every blog post I've read about this credit says it's $400 for individuals and up to $800 for couples. I am an individual, I did not file jointly with anyone.
I did file a Schedule M, but thought that was calculated into my refund already for the year, which I rolled over into this year's payments.
I'm self-employed, if that makes any difference in why the refund amount was higher. I know I pay twice the tax you guys do because I have to make up for the portions that my employer should be paying.
Is that what's caused this whacky amount on the check? And why was I sent this check when my refund was supposed to roll over (and appears that it did and this check is in addition to my refund)?
I've done all of the counterfeit tests and this is in fact a real check from the United States Treasury. I have not received the separate explanation letter yet. Any help understanding this would be appreciated.
