I use a credit card for everything I can. I pay it off each month. I keep maybe $5 to $10 in small bills on me only because there is a local donation only bread store that I hit and I need small bills for that.

I use a credit card for everything that I can pay with a credit card. Even fast food joints, a 50c soda, etc. if I can put it on the credit card.

The vast majority of my purchases go to my Schwab Visa because I get 2% cash back on every purchase. Too bad they don't still offer this to new applicants. Sometimes I charge things to my AmEx SkyMiles card to get the miles.

We pay for everything w/ our credit card. I generally have less than $40 on me, and that usually lasts about a month.

Like most of you, I charge everything I can - usually on my rewards AMEX. Last year I had about $100k charged on it. I wish I could pay the mortgage with it.

Generally I carry around $1000-$1500 cash. You never know when you'll need it. But I bet I never spend more than $100 a week of it.

OP: Since you are v/disciplined, why not choose the CC that offers the best benefit. Do your Visa gift cards equal 3% cash back? Join us putting purchases including utilities, transportation costs, food etc. on CC for a 3 month 'trial' period and see how this works out for you. If you feel uncomfortable you can switch back to your current system. We keep $100. in twenties in our home, taking $20. cash as 'pin' money.

We charge everything but pay it off every two weeks, on payday. That we we always know we're on target.

then once I knew she could control spending, we switched back

We keep next to zero cash on us at all times
I am bad- if I have cash, I will use it at coke machine or similar
wife is just in habit of only shopping where they take cards
I thought awhile ago your wife had charged up the credit cards and had the bills sent to her mother so you wouldn't know? I'm just going of the top of my head here, so if it wasn't you, I apologize. Does that experience change any of your views on paying with credit cards with the intention of paying them every month?
