  • Marketforce Mystery Shopping

A few years ago, I was watching CNN and they had someone talking about mystery shopping. I went to the marketforce website and signed up...but I never took advantage of it.

Well, after 3 years I finally took on one of their shops. It was at an ACE Hardware near my house. I had to fill out a survey about how clean the store was, how helpful the employees were. Then I had to buy something that was more than $2. After getting home, I entered my answers to their survey and faxed my receipt. I was then compensated $7 for my trip there and reimbursed $5 for my purchase (a pair of gardening gloves that I needed anyway).

I am now signed up to do a mystery shop at a grocery store that doesn't offer any compensation, but it does reimburse you up to $10 in groceries (which is awesome to me!). The website gives me an area to refer people to do this...if you would like to sign up, please pm me your email address and I will be happy to add you!

It isn't a ton of money - but at it could add up!

That sounds like compensation to me.

It's great compensation! There are also grocery audits that reimburses up to $15. It is a little more time consuming, and you have to let them know that you are a marketforce rep there to do a grocery audit. You basically just have to see if they are well stocked with things that are mentioned in their weekly flyer.

          It's a fun little hobby.

I have been a mystery shopper for many years. It is a fun way to try new businesses or get "free" goods/services while getting compensated in the form of a shopper fee and/or reimbursement. Years ago I was much more active with MS, but it got to be overwhelming because I ended up scheduling several assignments weekly. It was difficult to keep track of + have the time to enter the necessary information on the online reports.

It is an interesting, fun hobby!

I got in trouble with my manager at my part-time job a while back because she told me that the mystery shopper that came into our store reported that I walked right past them without offering them assistance.

I have also done some mystery shopping over the past several years. It is a fun hobby but you also have to be careful that the time & effort is worth the payment. For example, I've seen that $10 reimbursement grocery shop. For me, it's not worth it, because you also have to spent 20 minutes in the store and I don't regularly shop that store. If I was going to that store anyway, sure!

I find that Marketforce shops start out at a really low rate of pay. So I'll do one or two at a store at the regular rate of pay (which I don't really consider worth it) and then wait for them to call me with last minute/emergency shops which are bonused. You do have to build up a good reputation with the company to go this way though.

                  Beware of MarketForce

After spending literally hours reading over poorly written, long-winded instructions for a shop assignment at McDonalds, doing the shop, then spending an hour filling out the shop information, I was denied pay by MarketForce. the instructions required use of a digital timing device. I had one on my cell phone, but while holding it waiting in line, I noticed a clock with a seconds hand on the wall. I figured that was less obvious, so I used it to watch my time. Well, I guess I should have just lied and said I only used my digital cell phone timer. They are now denying my payment and reimbursement for the shop.

I did a mystery shop for another company that had a contract with Cheesecake factory. those ones were easy (and done in a way that provided better feedback for the store/restaurant), but I can't remember the company name now. These can be nice ways to make a little money and get free meals, but I wouldn't work for MarketForce again.

I agree that the instructions for this shop are long winded and difficult the first time you do it. However, MarketForce is completely within their rights here to deny you payment. The shop instructions said use a digital clock. You didn't. The fast food timings are very important as the company has very strict requirements for speed and being a few seconds off could lead to them being unfairly penalized or rewarded.

Also, you may want to edit your post. Revealing the name of a client is a violation of the terms that you agreed to when you signed up a shopper.
