My wife and I attended a formal dinner dance Saturday night celebrating the 50th anniversary of our synagogue. It was a ritzy event with the men in tuxes or nice suits and the women in gowns. My wife wore a new necklace that she bought last week just for this event. A couple of other women commented how nice the necklace was and one of our friends was looking at it and said she really liked it and to go show it to her husband and tell him that's what she wants for Mother's Day.
What my wife didn't tell anyone was that she bought the necklace at Target for under $20.
I wonder if our friend would still have wanted it as a gift if she knew that.
