  • I Want the press to interview me

I am tired of hearing about poor underwater homeowners ONLY (interview us folks)who many lived high off the hog, and just will even if you gave them a free house. I want some press about folks like us who bought a home, worked extra hours, budgeted, paid off extra principal because it felt good to be close to paid off, took cheap trips, bought used clothes, clipped coupons before it was trendy, (oh and HAD cash to get expensive things))and made due even through job loss the same year or a first child being born and unemployment. (oh and one spouse(myself) making medical assistant money for years b/c I got no teaching job with my degree in Michigan.

I know many people are in need of help, but no one is going to pat me on the back or offer responsible folks a break.

Goldy, a number of years ago a national financial magazine published a question from a reader asking about how he and his wife wanted to help their son with college and they planned to retire in 10 years and how much they had in savings and how much they earned. The columnist gave some long response which totally missed the point in my opinion. I wrote in and said that my wife and I were 10 years younger than this couple, earned less than them but already had about $100,000 more in our retirement accounts. I wanted to know how they ever expected to be able to retire. I went on to say how we lived frugally, saved over 20% of our gross income, shopped at thrift shops, cooked at home, etc.

Guess what happened next? One of the editors of the magazine called and asked if they could do a feature story on my family, and they did. We were profiled in a 5 or 6 page article including photos of us cooking at home and shopping at a local thrift shop (they sent out a photographer to do the photo shoot).

So there are times when the media is interested in those of us who choose not to live beyond our means. Just the other day, I saw a story on the news about the woman who started the "For the Mommas" blog site. It was a good story and focused on how she got started and how she had found ways to save money. I agree that we need more of those stories both to show that not everyone is irresponsible and to serve as a role model for those who are struggling at their own hand.

The Obama Administration sure in the hell isn't going to.

I want someone to let me live in my house for less than what I originally agreed to when I took out my mortgage. I would LOVE lower payments. But wait, I pay my bills on time and live within my means.

The two relatives that I have that are currently in the worst financial shape both own million-plus dollar homes. That they can't sell. That they couldn't afford on a good day. But this was their choice. I chose the much smaller, completely non-updated house because it was within my budget. Guess who's getting rewarded by money from other family members? Not me!

I just hope karma catches up with all of these people one way or another.
