  • Have you ever lied about your frugalness?

I found myself in a conversation over the weekend with the Jone's and everyone else in the neighborhood trying to keep up with them. Usually, I have no problem telling my point of view, but after listening to everyone try to one-up everyone else, I was just too tired to be bothered with it.

I didn't really lie, but I did nod in agreement when I really should have stated my real opinion. Have you ever been in a similar situation?

In a situation like that I just sit and smile knowing that I spend ALOT less money than them!

People come over to my house and I am always complimented on certain things that I own. In particular, the flowers and vegetables that fill my garden, the paintings and textiles that I produced myself and the cleanliness of my home (considering how busy I am).Which is in the main done with simple household products and not expensive cleaners!

I think I would have had to excuse myself in the same situation. It can get very frustrating.

I have never lied about being frugal, but then everyone who knows me knows that is the way I am.

I can see how a situation like that would arise sometimes. It's too bad.

I wouldn't consider that lying though I agree the nodding can make your eyes glaze over. Just as a unwelcomed speech from me on what really should be important! I don't waste my breathe on those that don't yet see the light of frugalness!

I guess it really wasn't a lie...I just felt a little ashamed not saying the way I really felt, but I guess that is sometimes the best thing to do.

I tend to think that it's not anyone elses business where or how I spend my money. I'm frugal in some areas which allows me to be not so frugal in other areas. I think it's funny when people "brag" about how much money they spent on something when I know that they could have spent less!
