  • Is it a good time to buy a Toyota?

Do you think it's a good time to drive a hard bargain on a Toyota?

With all the hysteria in the news and it being end of the month, a good bargain may be for the taking.

I've got my eye on a Toyota Tundra. I want to trade my Honda Odyssey for it. I could just sell the van on Craigslist, but I'm lazy.

No, I'm not worried about sticky accelerators and getting killed in the thing.

Maybe if you buy from a private owner who is afraid and wants to dump it. Didn't I hear they suspended all sales on those models in question? I have one of the "recalled" toyotas.... but I'm not worried and ready to sell. I'm just prepared to throw it into neutral if need be til they figure this thing out.

They said in the newspaper that some are not effected - that the dealer has to check on that individual vehicle because only one accelerator vendor is a problem.

But I suspect that Toyota dealerships are empty because of the news.

Yeah, I'll bet it's a good time to wheel & deal for a Toyota.

According to Kelly our Toyota has lost 17% of its value the last 3 months and I'm wondering if this is why. Our model isn't even on the list of those that are sticking.

"and it being the end of the month"

Do people tend to put cars for sale toward a month's end?

Salesmen and dealerships have quotas to meet each month.

In at least one of the dealerships in a near city they are moving the toyotas affected to the back of the buildings. I wonder if you could make a good deal for one while they are "stashed."

The weather report for this weekend is pretty crappy here in the south. Freezing rain and snow.

May be the perfect storm for making a deal!

If you get one at a great deal I'm sure you can pay to get the brake system inspected and still come out ahead.

Many years ago I had the accelerator stick in my 82 Camaro maybe 3 or 4 times.

Each time I simply pressed the clutch and braked until I was at a safe speed then I turned off the ignition before the engine blew.

I was only 18 or so and was too young (or stupid) to be scared but it would always freak out the passengers.

The case I don't get is the police officer and passengers that died when their pedal got stuck and they went off a curve at 120mph. They had time to dial 911 and say their gas pedal was stuck but didn't even realize they could shift into neutral???

I just tested this on my 2008 Toyota Tundra. I slammed my foot on the gas and then shifted into neutral while doing about 30 on a straight road...took me about 0.25 seconds and I was no longer accelerating.

I could see how you might have an accident in stop-and go traffic though...

or the time a guy passed me while reading the morning paper doing 75 down the interstate.

                              Update -

The weather was too cold for me to want to go look at trucks. Plus I was having second thoughs about keeping my van. Seems like every time I decide to get rid of it, something comes up where I need to haul stuff or a bunch of people and it's just darn handy. Amazingly I drove it all over snow and ice covered roads without a worry.

So maybe I'll just buy a truck when a deal comes along and add it to my fleet.
