I'm new to the site, and I had so many of the same questions as a lot of you have. I always had a reluctance to ask those "financial advisors" for the longest time, but recently I met with one. He had so many answers to help me out, and most of the questions I had didn't even involve the specific products he sells. If it wasn't in his arena of expertise, he would call someone else to find the answer for me.
I just encourage everyone to try speaking with a good financial advisor about many of these topics. You'll know the ones that truly care about your financial situation versus the ones just trying to make a sale or get your money. If you are uncomfortable with one advisor, find one that you can develop both a business and a personal relationship with.
