or shall I say employers have literally no compassion or regard for thier employees.
Are the days of employers appreciating thier employees gone? Before I go off the deep end, I have visions of a recent nice holiday dinner at a country club for one of my recent employers. (this was given by a busy mullti doctor profitable practice) I was also given a small bonus check and a modest necklace.
Medical is a nice sector to be plopped into right now.
I was listening to CNN yesterday and they said the job market will have a Darwinian recovery. This means the best and brightest on "top of thier game" will be hired.
Here is a real life example of someoen close to me that ran chills through me and honestly angered me.
John Doe worked for 9 years for Company X. He had no reason to believe he was a sub par employee. He had no performance issues and missed about 2 days of work in those years. They lay him off and retain an employee that was only there a few months(ok so call this a financial decision if the newer employee makes less and gets no insurance yet) On a side note that employee was also axed a few months later and never called back. (his skills were not advanced)
John Doe doesn't hang onto hope that he will be called back to work despite the couple times he saw his ex manager who would say"hopefully things will pick up and we can bring you guys back) but he believes he will be called back in the event they do get more work.
Fast forward one year. The company gets more work. They do not call back John Doe.
They hire someone with even more than his experience and expertise who knows more who happens to have a connection with the manager. Even tho John can do his old job perfectly fine, they elect to hire someone even better(they know John is still out of work). (In years past they had futile results seeking qualifies candidtates when more jobs were out there)
I know business is business and no one owes anyone a job. However, I had more faith in humanity than this. I know no one really "owns" thier job, but this is daunting.
Since the job is auto related John's only slight hope of really getting back into this good paying job would be his old job since the few jobs opened in his field he applied for got no interviews, and he has exhausted his networking contacts which is the best way to get a job clearly and how he got the job he lost.
