  • Learning to act

I find there is a lot of useful information on this site and I think "great, I'll do this and this and this to save money" but then find a week later I haven't acted on any of the ideas. Then I find more good ideas and say "OK, I'll do that and that and that" and another week passes and I still haven't started anything. Once you find a good idea, how do you act on it?

I pick one idea and work at it. If it is something I think DH will be on board with, I share my goal with him and ask him to help me with it.

Baby steps, one thing at a time, and definatly get DH on board if possible.

Sometimes an idea has to percolate for a time befoe it happens. Like outlet strips for the computers and tv, I read about it one month, and I think 6 months later I actually got it done. but it IS now done, thats the point. Not overnight frugality, but a lifestyle change for the err frugaler.

THe hardest step is always the first one. As has been noted, pick an easy step and just do it. It makes doing other things easier! Good luck!

I like to "pick the low hanging fruit". There are so many great ideas on this site that literally take only a few minutes to implement. As you read through the posts/journals, write them down so you don't forget them, then challenge yourself to do the easiest, most pain-free one per day (or week, whatever). You'll see progress...

I like the journal idea... or just re-reading some old posts from time to time. Sometimes I read things and don't get around to doing them, but then I go back later and read it again, and that is the time I can act on it. So keeping the idea in mind is a big help towards actually getting it done.

Make a list of things you have to do in a given week.
Or post a sticky to your computer monitor at work and don't remove it til you do it.
I get 200% more done every week becus of my lists!
