We were in Montpelier, VT--happened to stop for a late lunch on Main st. All the stores along main st had trick or treating set up between 4-6:30pm. It looked like all the parents were dressed up right along with the kids. There were some cute costumes, too. One family was dressed up like bumble bees--the baby, too. Really neat.Too bad it rained where we were. First a sprinkle and later on a downpour! It was a shame.

We do 'trunk or treating' at church, because in years past the street is mostly houses with no lights on, so you have to walk a mile to see the 4 friends you know and half a dozen neighbors who you recognize but don't really know..so not worth it,
And everyone is usually dressed up at the church in the beginning, but then we move inside for the games and bounce house and kids(and adults) start stripping.

I saw great & really creative costumes in my new neighborhood! I didn't see a single kid who wasn't "in character." And several homes had tables out on the driveway w/ snacks & drinks for the adults.
As a "newbie" in the neighborhood I was unaware what a big deal folks here make of the holiday, and clearly kids brought their friends from other neighborhoods, there were so many of them! I ran out of treats, then raided my pantry for stuff that wasn't necessarily kid favorites (granola bars, etc), and still had to turn off my lights at 7:30. I will be better prepared next year!
