    Oops. My bad. You can only deduct expenses incurred for volunteering, such as gas to get there, uniforms, etc. Doesn't sound like that would benefit your situation financially. My apologies and good catch JA.

      think out of the box-
      do you have kids? what sports do they play?
      do you play sports?
      are you active in charities?

      In my experience, someone could make about 10k-15k CASH officiating youth sports games. Depends if you can free up 20-40 weekends per year to referee tournmants. Most assigments pay cash at the field. $300-$500 per weekend.

        Technically you are supposed to pay taxes on those cash ideas....I don't know how you would handle SS.

        Or maybe the IRS doesn't really care about sub $10,000 income?

          Heck, yeah they care about a sub $10,000 income. You file taxes quarterly on that kind of income. Income earned as cash, I mean.
