  • Cellphone text question - please help.

I have a co-worker who is going through hard times, he is only 18 and has no loving family to look out after him so we have taken him under our wing.

Here is the situation, he has Alltel. He has a two phone plan (his brother- who is taking advantage) and his. He cant pay his bill (Yes everything is under his name) because he got slammed with overage and tons of download fees. His brother is no help in paying off the phone bill due to his own $ issues and the story on that could go forever.

Anyway his account is LOCKED until he can pay a portion of his bill and set up a payment plan. While his account is locked he does not have access to his account online. He cant set up a payment plan now anyways as he currently only has this part time job ($200 per month).

On his brothers phone there is a $9.99 per month charge for some sort of download, and on his phone there are two $9.99 per month charges for downloads. He was told what number to text to cancel the charges from the LOCKED phones but since he does not have access to his online account and the phones are locked he cant submit the text anyways.

The phone rep he talked to says he just has to wait until his phone is turned back on. That is $30.00 per month and due to the issues he is having that could be a good three months or more.

Anyone else know of a third way to stop the charges?

That's ridiculous. He needs to call customer service again. If the first rep can't help him, he needs to ask to speak to a supervisor. They can't make sending a text the only way to remedy the situation and then not allow him to make texts. I am 100% sure they can override that on their end. He just needs to speak to the right person. Another option would be to go into his local Alltel store, like the one he went to when he bought the phone and signed up for service. The person there should be able to take care of it for him.

I'm curious how this person is living on $200/month with no family support.

    * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
    * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

I too was surprised when he said that the lady said he would have to wait to cancel the service. I will tell him to call them again on tuesday.

Last month He had quit his job full time job (which he cant go back to now), went on a large vacation which broke him financially; because of another job offer with higher pay and benefits that due to personal issues he ended up turning down two weeks ago.

Like I said the boy is 18 and his family is not supporting him, if anything they are dragging him down more. He is not living off of $200 per month as he is currently in debt to his eyeballs, and sleeping on co-workers couches because he terminated his lease when he thought he would be moving.
