      Hi Pennywise,

I had a look at your thread on airline credit cards. We don't happen to have airline credit cards here in New Zealand. We do have what is called "Hot Points" on our visa. This enables us to get points. We cash in our points for vouchers for movies, liquor, clothes and almost anything. We can trade them in for airline miles, but we found that by the time we built up enough for any kind of substantial trip our points would have expired. This way we spend them on things we need, before they can expire.

      Thanks for your advice,

I suppose it is for security, and peace of mind. Being able to pay for DD's education is a high priority for us. Dh and I also want to be able to retire fairly young and have enough means to travel and live the life we want. I've never been the sort to just live for the moment without planning for the future, so saving is sort of ingrained in me.

Can you tell us more about your economy. How is the taxes, health care, quality of life. What is the transportation, do you like it or would you want to move to another country? Some of us would like to leave the USA and Britain due to high taxation, poor services.

My motivation to save is freedom! I want to do what I want, when I want. I would hate to HAVE to work at 65, although I may choose to!

Actually right now the only way we are saving is by paying off our debts. We already have a small EF, however not enough. Once the debts are paid off we will save more. What motivates me to pay off debt is I want us to have control of our money...I am sick and tired of having to give so much of our money to our creditors. I want to have the freedom to choose each month how we want to spend it....I want to have cash!! It seems like all my life I have been in debt...mostly it's our own fault but it makes me made anymore. To me having cash whether in hand or invested is freedom and power over you own life.
