  • irs lost or doesnt' have 5 ammendments we sent

Back at the end of Jan, me and dh sent 5 tax amendments to the irs. My dh does our own taxes. We don't itemize. WE take the standard deduction(house is almost paid down no little inteest is paid)
my dh didn't know we could still get a credit for paying our property taxes. So we sent 5 separate amendments for past 5 years. The form said it takes 8 to 12 wks to get them back.
    it's been way more.
We called the irs and they said they never got any of the 5 (all mailed separate, and that it takes 12 to 16) I doubt the post office lost 5 items which they said might have happened. lol
We mailed them again today but this all in one envelope.
My theory is they did not get done yet but are sitting there.

Was just looking that up and I am surprised, in fact one place called it 'the little known deduction'.

I am sure the IRS is probably getting many amendments sent in on this - it is listed in all those questions on the super easy EZ form.

It pays to read that stuff sometimes.

I would just keep calling and politely ask about this.

I have used the cheaper get a receipt with a number by paying a small amount above postage with the idea it can be traced if the recipient declares they did not get the item.

And if it by some chance happens again that it is lost send it in with the Certified Signed Return Reciept Requested mailer next time - somebody in the office has to sign for it - totally excuse proof.
