1 adult, but I like to cook and feed my BF a lot.

    Groceries: $250
    Dining Out: ~$50-$100
Alcohol: ~$50 (bottle of red once a week)

    That doesn't include household items.

Its just my wife and myself.

We eat very good every night. For example, an average meal is something like Greek Chicken With Artichoke Rice and Chicken Wellington. we don't do a ton of sides.

We average $40-60 a week in groceries, which includes the lunches we pack for lunch and any snacks. It will be closer to $60 during the week of our monthy UFC pay-per-view party.

We eat out sometimes, but the amount varies.

My family of 5, 2A, 3K averages about $600/mo roughly. We don't eat out so maybe we'll have $25 in take out once a month. My kids just eat me out of house and home, epecially in the summer when they're home. Only 20 more days till school starts and I'm hoping to bring that monthly total down!!

We averaged $708 per month for food this year for me, wife and 2 cats.

Kinda shocked it is so high since I usually eat only 1 meal a day.

            Two adults. Food only: $600 - 700 a month.

            Considerations:
This covers all meals for one person and most meals for the other.
Spouse travels about 10-13 days a month, so another $200-250 on food away from home.
We rarely eat out, aside from spouse eating out when away from home.
Most all purchases are at a food co-op that specializes in organic food and locally grown food (as much as possible) and gourmet/specialty items (think delicious imported cheese!).
Rarely do we purchased prepared or frozen meals.
We also have to deal with the higher cost of items to deal with a gluten-free diet.

We are consistenly in this range, so its easy enough to track whether we are well under/over budget.

We spend $90-120 eating out each month.
              More info:

I pack my own lunch for work. Might eat out once a month for lunch. My wife works from home, so she eats at home (might eat out once or twice a month for lunch if our 2 year old is having a not-so-good day... ).

Our costs are either at Costco or our nearby supermarket. We used to try and shop at more placese on the weekend to take advantage of deals and save $5-15 a week, but found it was really time consuming. We place high value on family time, so saving a few extra dollars was not worth the lost family time. We found other areas to cut costs.

If I had to guess, I would say the non-food portion of our grocery budget is about $60-90 a month.

              Interesting thread and responses.

I really do not have a good grasp of our grocery spending. What is the best way to track this? We really don't keep track of it so I have no idea!

We're able to track it quite easily since we use our credit card for almost all grocery purchases and restaurant meals. All I need to do is scan the CC statement and add up what was charged at supermarkets and what was charged at restaurants.

If you pay cash for these purchases, you would need to keep a log on your own or save receipts.

We average around $100 per week for 2 adults, but that includes various household items as well (toilet paper, deodorant, etc.). We pack our own lunches and rarely eat out.

My wife is a vegetarian, although she does eat fish. We eat a lot of fruits and vegetables.

I spend a lot less these days

By eating out less and cooking at home more, I think I probably spend under $20 per day on food, which is much less than I used to!

I live in a big city, but cost of living is pretty average. Eating like a king certainly has its price! I do pay for guests regularly, too, so that definitely adds to the expense.

                          2 adults/1 son

Son works and buys his own food since he made the mistake of telling his Dad that we have the same old thing! Dad told him to buy his own! That was a year ago so we're buying less than we did before.

$187.00 to $188.00 every two weeks for DH and me. I can be precise because the last few months I noticed that I spent the same amount every two weeks! I must have a built in computer that tells me to stop because I don't buy the same food every two weeks!

                          Good question!

There are 2 adults in the family.

We mostly buy the basics (milk, cheese, produce) and shop the sales

We can spend as little as $100 a month on groceries, and as much as $250.

We have a budget and keep to it as much as possible.
