  • Things I have cut out of spending

Over the last year or two I have been trying to cut out some things. I gave up:

    Both Ben and Jerry
delivery pizza -we do make homemade once in a while
cut way down on store bought bread
put a brick in the toilet tank to cut water
pepprige farm cinnamon bread (well i bought one for my bday)
    satelite tv
garbage pick up (I take to dump myself for waaaaay cheaper)
    switched work hrs to carpool

trying to think of things to cut but since i have always been lower income so not too much short of moving into my car

Just curious about your savings here. The dump is only a few miles away from here for me. What does "way" cheaper add up to for you.

Actually, by using coupons, stockpiling non-perishables, following the ads faithfully, shopping almost exclusivly at independent (MUCH CHEAPER markets) and doing deals at CVS & Walgreens for the register rewards & extra bucks I have been able to add some things back into my spending. I have been taking only $25/week for ALL my grocery, cat and household supplies needs for about 5 years now. I have added a pay as you go cell phone. I have added $25/month fun/entertainment to budget. I also doubled my 401k contribution.

My annual raises have not even been at COLA levels (neither has anyone else at my place). My house insurance, real estate taxes, medical insurance/copays and sales tax have gone up 8-10%/year.

Then again, I do NOT have $$$ internet, cable, car payment.....bills.

It cost .10 lb if you take it to the dump. Plus they take recycles too so many things that would have gone into garbage when i was getting it picked up now can go into recycle (broken bike = metal ) because roadside recycle is limited in what they take.

I was paying 80 every three months to have garbage picked up.

I recycle heavily and only pay about 1-2 bucks a week when i drop off and that usually is paid by my returnables (soda bottles)

added benifit is if I got something i don't wan t sitting around around i can get rid of it immediatly

Although my trash bill is about half of what you stated I may look into hauling it up there. I've got atrailer and it would be pretty easy to drive a few miles down the road to do it. Thanks for that tip.

yes I am liking that much better just for the fact that I used to forget to put stuff at the curb and have to look at it longer. Now i just go when i feel i have enough to make it worth the trip. Actually my daughter who is on a lerner permit informs me that we need to go and she would be happy to drive me. lol
