However, not much money is actually wasted on meat. Also there are vegitarians.

Would you eat test tube meat to save money?

I can't help but be curious about the finished product. There are many unanswered questions on this stuff but it may one day be a normal thing that a lot of people routinely eat. I'm sure this will generate a big fight from the agricultural states so I'll bet this is further down the road than you might think. I won't be first in line for it."Those who can't remember the past are condemmed to repeat it".- George Santayana.

I wonder who is funding this research. If this were really a viable and promising concept I would think that someone with a lot of cash would be speculating that it will catch on or even work. If it's PETA, well, let's just say they have their own agenda"Those who can't remember the past are condemmed to repeat it".- George Santayana.

No. I think some of the vegetarian products on the market are odd. There is one called Quorn or something which is, get this, chicken nuggets made out of something like corn aged in some odd way. no thanks. I will eat veggie burgers made with beans ets. They say animals eat 70% of the grain grown due to farming. This takes land, energy, and creates a lot of animal waste that runs off and pollutes. I eat some meat , only white. I am not a vegetarian, but I can not think of the horrors of factory farming or I will cry. It appals me to no end. It is so cruel to read of the abuses that I am certain most folks would swear off meat if they read of them also.

The image that comes to mind when I hear "test tube meat" is watching someone place a toothpaste container on the counter and then take a rolling pin and squeeze the "meat" out with the rolling pin. I don't know if I would subject my family to test tube meat. I'm sure we could find other sources of protein. If it was the only thing available for us then I would buy it.

The article says that the shmeat would be used in processed meats like hot dogs. I would imagine you wouldn't be able to tell the difference and I bet that if you knew what really went into hot dogs, shmeat would seem a lot more appetising.

Here is a picture of what "test tube" meat currently looks like.
It's basically a strand of muscle in a petri dish, pinned down in growth medium. The metal ends may also be electrodes used to stimulate growth, but I am not certain.
Obviously, this is a research specimen, and does not at all resemble mass production (whatever that looks like). Still, the reality seems far more mundane than the imagery that such terms conjure.
