Here is an interesting article I saw in the WSJ. If you are curious about how much the Pres and VP paid in taxes in 2008. 
The Obamas are in the 31% effective tax rate (down from 33.7% in 2007).... Still, it seems like they have a couple of dollars left over for the essentials.
