    ...without a cell phone?

I had one for about a year, but during that time i never learned my own phone number. And the only times i used it was to call in for a pizza on my way home from work.

Nope. Never owned one, never plan to own one. I Guess I never have seen the reason. When I'm out of the house, the last thing I want is someone calling me on the phone.

It took me some time to give in, but I now consider it a great tool. It helps me to make very efficient use of my time by calling in prescriptions, reservations, take-out orders, etc. I also catch up on calling friends and family on my way home from work.

I do not have long distance at home because my cell phone's plan includes 'free' weekends and 'free' nights after 7 pm. That is when I make the bulk of my calls, and all my family is long distance. It works out just great. I do hate the $84 we spend per month on two phones, but I can't imagine being without one now.

Good for you that you're fine without!

I agree. I have one and use it a fair amount, and also use it in place of a land line (why do I need both?). My main reason for wanting one is if my car ever breaks down, I can call for help and service. About 2 years ago, my car died on a main, busy road, and car after car passed and did not call for me. Finally, a very nice man pulled over and not only called various places for me, he ended up calling in a favor with a cop he knows to help lower the towing price (the companies were asking in the $130 range for less than a mile! It was also close to Christmas). He also tried jumping my car for me. But the point is, it took me about 30 minutes to get someone to pull over/call for help. I was cold, tired, and miserable. God forbid I really needed to get in touch w.someone ~ so in my opinion, even if it's a pay-as=you go phone, they can be helpful.

My fiancee at the time (now my husband) got me my first cell phone when my car left me stranded at 11:00 at night in the dead of winter in a not-so-great part of town. The people who let me use their phone were very nice . . .but also quite drunk . . . I think after that he decided his beloved needed a cell phone I guess that's the price of driving older cars huh? We recently added on to my sister's family plan, so now our plan only costs about $12 a month.

Fern -- I'm glad you asked the question . . .I was beginning to wonder if my husband and I were the last people in the world not to have two cell phones LOL . . .

I never has one when I lived in the city of Chicago. Never needed one and the few times I did I used my friends. When I moved to California I got one as I was driving a lot more and felt it was justified. I live in DC now and have one but I just expense it through the company so its not like it costs me anythign but float.

We have them for our business. It made more sense to do that than get another landline in the house. DH and I have unlimited minutes to call between the phones, and we have unlimited weekend minutes which is nice for making long-distance calls. I like the peace of mind I have, having a phone with me, now that I have a child.

My parents don't have a cell phone, and I'm not certain they ever will.

I've had a couple of phones over the past several years, but never relied on them as my main means of communicating with friends and family. I let my last contract expire and havent missed it since. Plus its one less thing from me to carry around and keep track of.

I dont care for the disruption either. Between hearing them go off and interupting conversation, they seem to be a bother. But then, I like my personal space, so that's me.

Nope, no cell phone. We have just a land line. The only time I've been even remotely tempted is when I'm on the bus during my work commute and the bus is stuck in serious traffic. It would be nice to call someone but it happens once a year.
Sweetie and I deputized each other to make executive decisions in grocery store, etc. Weird I know, but I hate it most when a cell phone user is at a grocery store standing in front of a shelf...conferring. Buy it, use it, get on with your life.
But we do have more computers than people in our household, so we are seriously exploring VOIP (voice over internet protocol) to see what we can do with that.

I have one instead of a landline, does that count?

Re: Am I the only person in the world....

I've had one for four years, primarily because I don't want to get stranded in my old car when it's -70 degrees F. I want that freedom and ability to call AAA without having to rely on anyone else. I don't have a landline either, haven't had one for two years, and I certainly don't miss it. All I have to do is shut my cell phone off and I have instant privacy.

We each have one. Wouldn't be without it! Also dont' have a landline. I really feel that they are worth their money.

I would never go without one. I now pay $29 a month, but have no roaming, no longdistance fees, and calls to other mobiles and family are also free. I get 500 daytime and 3000 night minutes that rollover. I view it as a safety factor.

My husband made me get one when I was working. I was driving a rural highway at night and he was worried that something might happen (accident or whatever). He also likes me to have it because of the kids. It has saved our butts a few times when the car has broken down. We have talked about getting rid of the landline, but haven't done it yet.
