  • My Gas Meter not working..

    Hi everyone!

I closed my 1st house on 1/15/09 and noticed my gas bills are $13.08. My analog reading has been the same since I moved in 60 days ago. Should I be contacting the builder or gas company to fix this issue? Although it's nice having $13.08 a month gas bills, I don't want to be charge for the incorrect bills the last 2 months. Has anyone had issues with this or repercussions?

Yes. I've worked at a company that was getting estimated bills based on last years usage becuse the meter wasn't sending in the signal and when they came out to do a manual reading, we owed a lot.

I recommend calling the gas company and notifying them. I'd bank some extra money because eventually they will bill you for the previous months.

Yes, it would be wise to get that fixed as soon as possible.

I would have it fixed. However I do not think they should charge you. I have a vendetta against my gas provider. They are theives so I do not have much simpathy for them. If they insist on charging you I would low ball my gas usage and say I had only pilot lights lit.

The most honest way would probably be to take a survey of your furnace, stove, gas water heaters and possibly dryer and prorate it over a months time based on the average annual gas use for these items.

I am sorry if that sounds dishonest, but Georgia Natural Gas atleast are a bunch of theives an how. Rest assured they will make back anything they lost to you with ease.

The gas company will always go after any back payments. Our local company installed faulty meters in a subdivision a year or so ago. It took them awhile to figure out the meters were faulty, and of course they now want the homeowners to pay up for the low billing.

Get it fixed, and have some extra money handy, because they will probably charge you for the difference.
