I read the Detroit News and I always chuckled at how they announce who they "endorse" for political positons or even how to vote on things such as ballot proposals.

I'm all for uninhibited reporting of truth or facts. I think the industry used to govern itself as to whether news was factual or opinion based, now days it seems loosely observed.
I personally think The Fairness Doctrine would be unconstitutional. The free market will always give freedom to those who want their message heard. Forcing a conservative talk show to present unwanted oposing views is as rediculous as giving banks money and telling them how to compensate its staff, in a free society.

The reason the news is biased is because people want it that way. They want a news source to either tell them what to think or either unambiguously reflect their personal viewpoint. People say they want the news to be balanced and only report the facts but they don't really mean it. You are in the minority. How else could a Fox News have come to prominence?

The local Detroit News is without a doubt very liberal. Thier endorsements for political positions etc. are generally democratic. When it was time to vote fo rpresident etc, it literalyy listed the entire ballot in the paper and how it endorsed voting down to the smaller items and issues.
Detroit can be viewed a blue collar town, but there are plenty of Republican areas and people around here so I am not sure how they would feel about that.
I enjoy reading the paper b/c it gives me a synopsis of current issues. I don' tneed to listen to an interview of each senator or person with an opion ad nauseum, just give me the details of what actually is happening.
