ok so at $25 a day assuming the child is there 9 hours a day, that is $2.77 an hour in pay for the provider. ok shouldn't they be paid at least minimum wage?

I currently pay $1250 a month for one in full time care (pre-K) and a school aged child who only goes before and after school. A few years ago, when my youngest was a baby and my oldest wasn't in school yet, our daycare payment was about $300 more than my mortgage.

I always joked (sort of) that I couldn't afford daycare for 2 kids as a working mom, but that I also made too much to not work. We wouldn't have been able to pay all of our bills on my husband's salary (we make just about the same amount) but half of my salary went to daycare.

My youngest starts kindergarten is 5 months and then it'll be like I won the lottery!

my ex and I worked different shifts to avoid paying childcare. He is in a band on the side that tours small tours a few times a year. When he was away, he hired through a nanny agency. There was a membership fee, an annual fee and I think it was around $25 a day but that seems really low because I paid sitters $10 an hour in the 90s. But the nannies were college students, if we liked one we could pick her. Most were energetic and great. If one sat around all day watching adult tv as reported by the kids, we got our money back. The best part was they were reliable, I did not have to worry about being covered for work.
