I see a lot of books on half.com listed for under $1.00 and I wonder if it is really worth the trouble at that point. If a book sells for $.75 and you pay a 15% commission, that only leaves about $.63, assuming the shipping allowance is adequate. Plus you need to provide an envelope and shipping label, so knock off a few cents more. I wonder if it wouldn't just be better to donate the books to Goodwill and take the tax deduction.

I've never bought a textbook from half.com, I either buy directly from eBay or use craigslist.
When I foolishly bought books from the bookstore, I would sell them back to school for about 10% of what I paid. But now since I buy books that are two or three editions older, I just give them to the book drives that take place at the end of the semester. -

I don't bother selling books that would sell for less than $2.00. You also have to take in the cost of gas driving to the post office.
In the end, if I have a book I want to get rid of and it would sell for less than $2.00 on half.com, I usually give it to the library (I can walk to the library to drop off the books) or the goodwill donation center (again, I can walk there).Comment

I sold a small hardback book for $1 and it cost less than the reimbursement to mail it, so I actually got back more than $1. It is cleaning it up off my shelves, and I can make time to do that at night instead of taking time out of my day to head to the post office. Probably not worth it, in the grand scheme of things, but why not?Comment
