    One other note in the math above- no individual can have a SS benefit higher than around 37k right now (or something like that) it was covered in my tax class. The only way for SS to generate 44k in income is if both spouses are collecting, and my instructor said it was rare (he had never seen it in 30+ years) where 2 spouses collected more than 44k combined in SS alone.

    That equation only comes into play if people have another income other than SS.
