There are some things that people think go beyond what is acceptable in order to save money. I found that one of these is training your cat to use the toilet to save money on kitty litter (which comes to about $2000 in savings over a cat's lifetime) which many people think crosses that acceptability line. Do you feel this way and if so, what is it exactly that you feel crosses the line?

I can't figure out what objection people could have for it. I can understand people deciding it's not for them. Heck, my cats aren't potty trained. But I'm at a loss for what people think "crosses the line".
Assuming the cat is receptive to the training and isn't being abused in order to achieve training, what's wrong with it?
Not only is it frugal, but it's arguably better for our environment as the cat waste goes through waste processing instead of getting dumped into a landfill with millions of tons of kitty litter.
One could also make a case that it might be better for the cat since they won't be exposed to litter dust and chemical additives.

If I thought I could do it I might get a cat

The time I could spend training Mr WHiskers (I do not own a cat however) I could spend making money.
I say to each thier own.
Crossing the line to me is being so worried all the time about money when you have it (a ton of it). I know rich folks who worry about money and it annoys me. My parents have multiple sources of income, a pension, healthcare for life, and a 50K car in the garage and are literally obsessed with money and worry about it????
I love cats, but do not miss the stinky box, and my current dog is small and shed free. He needs frequent baths and monthley hair cuts. I bought clippers and give my dog his haircuts.
