  • How Long Will The Recession Last?

How long does everyone think that the recession will last? It seems that things definitely haven't hit bottom yet, and once they do they will still be there for a while.

What do you think and why?

I've read several articles saying that expect things to start turning around sometime secord or third quarter of 09, but in all reality, who knows. Things will recover eventually if history is a guide, but how long it will take is based on a lot of intertwined and complex issues.

No offense but... questions like these are kind of like asking if the weather will be sunny, cloudy, or rainy a month from now.

A lot of factors that may play a part in this answer has yet to even materialize, such as Obama's second stimulus package.

          HAHAHA. Smarty-pants.

Actually, I wish I thought of that one first.

Yep. Traditionally, the market recovers first, so that's what to watch for. A recession is defined in hindsight, based on past performance. So we are already in one before we know it and we're already out of it before we know it is over.

It may already be over. We just don't know it yet.

                It's official: U.S. in a recession since December 2007 - Dec. 1, 2008

"It's official: Recession since Dec. '07"

See. They are just announcing today, 12/1/08, that we've been in a recession since a year ago. By the same system, it may be a year from the end of the recession before we know it is over. So while the recession may end sometime in 2009, we probably won't know it until sometime in 2010.

Personal Recession? National Recession? Global Recession?
Everything I read lately says 2010.
                  But who knows....
