      Yes, there are programmable thermostats in the house...my dad only has them on around 62 right now...haha.

        Take a lit punk (look for the ones in spikey hair as they produce more smoke - sorry for the pun - NOT) around the house to see if there are any air leaks and add insulation as needed (around windows, electrical outlets, etc).
        If certain areas need more intense lighting for DH, look at l.e.d. spots - even cheaper to run than CFs but more costly to buy.

        I found an old 'energy-saver' book from the 1970s; it suggested turning the heat down below 78 and down to 70 degs when away from home - things have changed a bit.
