Well, I was just offered a part time job today working evenings and weekends. I'll probably be making around an extra $100 a week or so to start. Not life changing, but it will definitely give my financial piture a shot in the arm. I'm figuring that I should be able to live off of this money for most of my daily expenses and use the money from my full time job to completely focus on paying down debt and for saving and investing. I'm not looking forward to working so many hours, but I've done it before and will get used to it. Does anyone else out there have a side job? How do you manage to find a work - life balance?

I worked a part time job in addition to my full time job for a while, then I got a new FT job that paid the same as both so I quit. It was really hard to have a good work-life balance, I won't lie. The best advice I can give is to make sure you get enough sleep, because things will be so much harder if you don't. If you didn't make sleep a priority before, do it now. Also do your best to plan ahead for meals to take with you so you don't wind up spending all the extra money you earn on fast food. I made that mistake at first. And if you have a family or SO make sure you schedule some time to spend with them. My other suggestion is to use commute time wisely. I rode the bus so it was a little easier, but even if you drive you can use that time to unwind a little. Maybe listen to books on tape/cd or music that you really like. The trick is to really make every moment count.

I've been starting to think about getting something. I work 4 10 hour days so I have Fridays off, and I've been thinking of student teaching on Fridays. Oh, and I farm on the weekends (but lately that is more like a job that I can spend money on).
