My fiance worked all summer at a law firm as a law clerk...and is going back to law school (5 hours away) this weekend to finish up his last year. He has spent a total of about $60 on non-essential items since the beginning of May. Nearly all of his income this summer has gone toward stamping out debt.
Meanwhile, I have been crazy about saving at least $825 out of my $1156 paycheck that I get every other week.
Well - the boy wanted and XBOX but knew that the little he made over the summer that was surplus...should probably go to school with him for necessities (you know, like for food, shelter and silly things like that).
I don't spend large amounts of money...but I felt that since he's been working so hard...and landed a job at this law firm as an associate for when he graduates next May...he deserved it.
So - I bought him an XBOX and one game. I didn't know how to give it to him, so I just put it under his comforter toward his pillow. He walked into the bedroom and didn't notice it for about 5 minutes...then he knocked on the large comforter-covered square and asked what it was. I shrugged my shoulders...and then he drew back the covers.
He was both shocked and definitely felt bad...but I wanted to do it for him. We've been sacrificing a lot and he lives so simply.
It was a worthwhile ($435) purchase.
