  • Where do you plan to retire?

Have you thought about where you plan to retire? Do you plan to stay where you currently live or will you move to someplace that has a cheaper cost of living? Have you thought about being an expatriate and living overseas?

I'm just starting to think about this and depending on what I choose, I think that the amount of money I will need for retirement will vary quite a bit. I'm curious what others have thought about this subject so that I can get some different opinions on what my choices may be and how I want to approach where I live when I retire.

We'll stay here. I'm in the Shenandoah Valley of Virgina. It's beautiful here and just hours away from DC, the beach, etc.

No clue... Maybe in Europe or stay in the US. We'll think more about that in 15 or so years.

I don't plan to retire. I think some type of work is good for a person whether working for someone or owning a business. Owning a business sounds good to me.

I am thinking Colorado or somewhere where I can ski in the winter and white water raft in the summer.

Ugh, I want out of Colorado! I was born and raised here, but I am tired of the summer heat. It's been over 100 here for the past few days, and that is NOT typical Colorado weather that i grew up in! We used to be able to snowmobile right out of the garage, now we have to go to Wyoming to ride.

Funny, I have lived here for 38 years and have never been skiing, and only went rafting as a customer for the first time in my life two weekends ago!!

We will probably head somewhere north where it is (hopefully) cooler, Alaska maybe? Or Panama, I like the area around El Valle.

I can see us being snowbirds, keeping a home here in NJ and another in central Florida near Disney World. I'd also like to own a motor home to travel around the country.

Hopefully split time between Colorado and Hawaii.

I agree Glock -- it seems like it used to be cooler in Colorado than it is these days. I still think Colorado is a nice place to live.

Yeah, I guess I sounded a little harsh. I do love it here, but I am getting tired of the heat. I am the kind of person that prefers things on the colder side. That's why I always look forward to winter!

I love Colorado, but my family is in Oklahoma. Okla. has a very low cost of living and it is central to most places. Besides, we have plenty of lakes and golf courses.

I will stay in the mountains of N. georgia or North Carolina, my husband is a licensed builder in both states and I can't see him ever really quitting work. He would go crazy!

I will likely be wherever my kids are. If not them, then wherever my good friends are. I want to be a Golden Girl.

I was born and have lived my entire life in Wisconsin, and I hope to leave when retirement arrives (if I can talk my wife into it). I'm very, very tire of the long winters.

Retirement spot would hopefully be somewhere remote, preferably near the mountains. Colorado, Montana, Wyoming. Alaska would be super, but I couldn't take the weather.

It will never happen, but Europe would be fine by me also - someplace liberal, like the Netherlands.

Every one of your choices sounds like they have colder winters than the next.

Somewhere in Florida, probably north of Orlando.

Ima: I think you might want to stay in GA for the no personal income tax side of it.
