  • Need suggestions....

I am a major lurker here...I'm active when times are bad and well they are really bad right now.

I have been on unemployment for the last 6 months. I have been job hunting...but my field is basically done right now due to the market down turn. I have been so careful with the money I had and with my unemployment check. BUT I made a huge miscalculation on how long UE would last and it is ending sooner than I thought. I knew that I would be getting 1 more check and it was to cover a 1/4 of my rent for August which is due on the 1st. Now I find out they are refusing to release it.

So I need some quick cash suggestions. I am friends with my landlord so I think I can get a few more days to come up with it...but not much more than that.

TIA for anything you could suggest.

You might try delivering pizzias, selling things. DO NOT GO TO A PAYDAY LOAN. Go to a church for help.

EBAY. Try craigslist to see if there are jobs, gigs you can do, like catering, tutoring, bartending.

If you are friends or friendly with your landlord, ask if there is work on his properties that you can do to cover rent. If s/he manages apartments, maybe you can clean, paint, or somesuch.

Got to Kelly Services, Volt, and other temp services. Try one of the same day pay labor pools.

Craigslist to offer your services, babysitting, house-sitting, cat/dog-sitting, rock removal, yardwork, gutter/pool-cleaning, tree-trimming, etc.

Extreme but there is always a call for plasma sales around here...

Box, get thee behind me...think outside of your normal routine and offer your services out there in the wide world...

Good luck and let us know what you decide to do and how it goes.

Ebay and Craig list might take too long. Have a garage sale.

Find a small job such as fast food, they should be easy to get a job. Also, check monster.com careerbuilder.com craigslist.com. Good luck, I hope for the best for you!

                  Donating plasma?

A place around me gives $200 a month to people that donate plasma 2x a week.

                  Is this really painful?

I am afraid of needles and blood...guess it isn't for me?

                  Ugh.

A couple friends have given plasma every couple weeks for a couple months... they were fine with it, you basically sit in a chair with a needle in your arm while a machine filters out plasma from your blood. The more medically-minded here know it better, but that's what they told me about it.

Myself, I also have issues with needles, and just couldn't do it.

As was said, they take the Plasma, return the red blood cells. Within a few hours and a few glasses or water you are back to normal. The process is simple. In three months time I received 900 dollars (Once per week) a few years back that is. I did it because they needed peeps with current Anthrax shots and I was (am) one of the lucky ones (And of course the money )

I just read this thread and it seems like everyone gave you similar suggestions. My quick suggestions was going to be "Donate plasma". My signature has info if you want some. I know some people who use this for car payment money. I believe they make around $200 per month.

I have done it before, during grad school. I needed to pay my taxes (some scholarship money is taxed, even if you don't get any money in your pocked) and I didn't have any.

I didn't mind it then. In fact, I may start doing it again now. I had looked before for some place in Wichita, but wasn't able to find one...but meatloafkend, that link worked! Thank you.

I could do it during lunch on Mondays and Wednesdays, maybe. I guess it depends on how much they pay.

There used to be two in Wichita but the only one I know of now is here

As far as getting money quick having a yard sale, pawn shops, Recycling or like others have suggested take a temporary job in another field.
Hotels hire often and would be a lot more pleasant than working fast food.

Sell used books to a used bookstore. However, here are some warnings:

All old books are NOT valuable.

Look the books up online and see what the lowest price is and how many there are. If your book is the same as 100+ copies online and they start on Amazon at .01, don't waste your time & the bookseller's taking them your copy. If on the other hand there is one copy online and it's $20+, you may have something.

Be polite. You are asking someone to pay you money for something. You are asking for a paycheck substitute. You wouldn't insult your boss and expect a good review would you? For some reason people think it's ok to be rude to booksellers and then expect them to give them top dollar.

Before you take books to the bookstore, clean them. Don't use soap and water, just wipe off the dust with a dry rag.

Call the bookstore and ask if they have a specialty. If they speicalize in railroad books and only sell nonfiction, don't take them your Stephen King first editions. Also ask them if they buy books for cash. Some dealers only pay cash. Most dealers pay in cash or store credit. Some dealers pay in store script. You need someone who pays cash.

REMEMBER: the price you found online is RETAIL. The bookseller will not give you that. They'll give you anywhere from 10-50% of that. (They have to pay their bills too.)

If you wouldn't buy a book in the shape yours is in, most likely neither will anyone else, leave that one at home.
