Yesterday I popped into our neighborhood Kroger's grocery store and was kind of surprised to see a display of women's purses for sale. Our store is pretty small and isn't a big mega mart or whatever like Wal-Mart or Super Target. Anyone else notice typical grocery stores selling things like this?

I remember about 20 years ago the first time I went into a certain grocery here. I had not been in a large store like that for a number of years and was so surprised to see they had a couple of aisles devoted to things like small wood furniture, televisions, garden tools, patio furniture, flags, decorative knick-knacks, artificial Christmas trees, casual shoes.... Now I've seen it so much that it just seems normal to me."There is some ontological doubt as to whether it may even be possible in principle to nail down these things in the universe we're given to study." --text msg from my kid

Krogers bought Fred Meyer in early 2000 and Fred Meyer is a "one stop shopping" store. Fred Meyer has an electronics department where they carry a variety of TV's, DVD's, computers, gaming systems, music, etc... Fred Meyer used to have a building department where you could almost find everything needed to build a house. When they merged with Kroger many of the non-grocery areas cut back on what they carried but at the same time Kroger was going to increase the non-food products they carry. I think with the popularity of Costco, Super Walmarts and other one stop shopping stores you will see more grocery stores going this way. In the same way Target is starting to carry more food items.
