Have you ever had anything stolen from your home, garage, shed, etc?

I had a kid steal a wooden recorder and $20 one day. I found part of the recorder on the one block walk to the candy store, a little store that still sold penny candy and had video games back the days when they were new. The kid was a video addict.

Some 25 years later a friend brought her friend over to my house and there was talk about my three recorders which sit in a vase in the living room. After they left, one recorder was gone. Months later my friend told me that it was indeed in the household of her by then former friend.

Husband's much more valuable guitar always sits in living room and no one has ever stolen it, but then, I guess it is harder to slip a guitar into a pocket!

Wow, how low! I can't believe someone would actually steal from your house like that after you invited them in!

I've never had anything stolen from me. But, I remember when my little sister was a toddler, my mom's jogging stroller was stolen from our front porch. It was left outside less than 5 minutes. My little sister kept saying the "bad lady" stole it. My parents drove around the neighborhood that night looking for it, but couldn't find it.

Another time all my mom's potted flowers were stolen from our front porch. They showed up at the high school as part of the senior prank.

When my little sister was in elementary school, she had brought some money for a field trip. It was only like $8, but it was stolen out of her backpack.

No, not yet. Hopefully if anyone tries I will not be home. 2nd Amendment security systems protects my house.

Yes, a neighborhood boy liked to visit my shed and 'borrow' my riding lawnmower battery. He has returned it though. Weird, really. I don't know if his parents caught him and made him bring it back or what. It has happened a few different times. CashHappySon has caught him back there a few times and waved his b-b gun out of the back window at the kid and threatened that the sheriff was on the way, so the kid ran away. That has rather stopped nowdays as the boy has aged.

I had a car stolen once (not at home) and another car attempted to be stolen but they weren't able to get it started (also not at home) but they did bust a window and wreck the ignition.

Nothing ever stolen from our house, though.

My husband has had his Van (Work) brokern into a few times and it's not fun when they've taken your tools which is your means of your lively hood. Plus, insurance doesn't cover very much - maybe $250.00.

we once moved and during the move our CD player disappeared not a clue exactly where or how

so I put all the Cd's in the guest room closet a few years later we bought a CD player went to get the Cd's and they simply were not there the guest closet was not cluttered I just had failed to notice they were gone until I needed them ,I suspect my brother but who knows

Aleta, when our van was destroyed in a fire, our homeowner's insurance covered the contents that were lost (CDs, tools, sunglasses, etc.). In your husband's case, he may need to get a special rider on the policy to cover his work tools.

Yes, I know about that rider but they are very expensive. We know people that have actually lost their insurance because of the amount of times that it was used. Thanks for the tip.

Actually, we lost our insurance for filing "too many" claims. Two claims within 5 years is what qualified as too many. After the 2nd claim, they dropped us, so I know exactly what you mean. It is wonderful that they can charge you a bundle for insurance and then cancel your policy if you actually try to use it.

I have a friend whose Suburban and racing trailing with a race car in it that got stolen.

As for insurance, a tornado wipe out our house back in 1998 and it was completely leveled (there was one place that made it - it was a small storm cellar in the basement where my mom, dad, sister, brother, and two men that were working at redoing the kitchen were able to get to to survive - they did make it, thank the Lord). The wise guy adjuster said he didn't think it was a total loss since a very very small part of the deck was intact. To say the least my parents were very upset with this guy. We did finally get a total loss claim with another adjuster.

My house was broken into and robbed when i was on a cruise on our 1st anniversary. You could tell it was teenagers by what they took. They took a pretty big coin collection that I had had for years.
When we got home, we fenced in the front and back yard and got two dobermans. No one opened the gate again!!

I was going to say no, while knocking on wood vigorously.

But reading this reminded me. My car was broken into once (nothing stolen nothing to steal - I Was a teen). I think I left the door ajar or unlocked, so it wasn't very traumatic. No damage.

Someone smashed my dh's window in and stole all his CDs. I don't think they stole his stereo, but I think they tried. I remember it was rather traumatic for him.

We grew up in areas where you don't leave your door unlocked or your valuables in plain view - it is just inevitable. Anyway, we moved to another big metro area and we keep getting all these e-mails from friends/neighbor about how *gasp* if you leave your purse and your laptop in plain view in your car for 5 minutes it gets stolen.

Well, duh. Welcome to the city! As such I can't help but being vigilant makes us rather non-targets. There are so many careless people around.

Auto theft is completely out of sight in our current neighborhood, but we have so far been lucky. Along the same lines, there are plenty of neighbors keeping their door unlocked in their fancy new cars, so I can't say we'd be much of a target anyway. But we do garage (& lock) our cars because of the theft and vandalism.

So I Feel rather lucky I don't have much to share.

My old 4-plex that I lived at had a shared garage. 4 garage doors on the inside but only one slot was private while the other three slots had no wall dividing them on the inside.

There is one door in the back of the garage building for the resident to walk into. It was left unlocked and bunches of my roommate's stuff were stolen. The stuff stolen I remember were a nice mountain bike, metal bed frames, dishes (especially the boxed Pampered Chef items and the William and Sonoma dishes (both brand new never used) that the roommate kept buying for her future dream home even though she was not saving a down payment for it yet. (I have done this too! its bad being a lady sometimes!)


This year we had our Wood ax and splitter stolen from our yard. We think it was some kids who had nothing better to do.

I have had the stupidest things stolen since moving to our condo. DH bought me those tire pressure valve caps for my car. As soon as we moved here they were stolen. Yes, I would have strangled the person who did it if I had known who it was - it was such a rare thoughtful gift from DH. Then we had our brand new grill cover stolen. My dad had told me to put duct tape on it so it looked like we patched a hole. I did that, so why in the world would someone steal a "ripped" grill cover?? It was a cheapo $10 one too, not a nice heavy one. I couldn't call the cops for either of these things and I didn't know what to do. If people are willing to steal stupid stuff like this, how can I feel safe here at all? I don't live in a bad area.

I used to also have a boss who would steal things from my desk. She'd make a comment about something and the next thing I knew it was gone. Sure don't miss her at all...
