I know that fuel costs dictate the price of a lot of the things we buy. With the price of gas at the current level, how long will it be before we start seeing a rise in the prices of our food and other things? Is there a general rule for this? Should I be stocking up on certain things with the assumption that they will cost more in the near future?

Re: How long before other prices rise?
I am noticing a shortage of milk at the grocery store, and think this could be tied in. I only do organic for ds, but have noticed that all milk is not being replenished as quickly. I would definetly expect certain items to rise in price, ie..coffee, tea, milk, meat, etc...

Re: How long before other prices rise?
In our area, anything dairy is through the roof! The warehouse club still offers the best price on milk, 1/2 and 1/2 and eggs, but I usually only go once a month. Our local grocery store puts a different type of milk (1%, 2%) on sale each week at about $2.49/gal, otherwise it's close to $4! I've also heard coffee will be going through the roof due to the tsunami/earthquake in Indonesia. Not looking forward to that!

Re: How long before other prices rise?
My worries exactly. Prices of milk here are already climbing, its about $2 for a 1/2 gallon of milk and anywhere between $2.30 & $ 2.65 for a gallon. Meat prices are also climbing here. I don't no about everyone elses, but I have a growing boy and he eats a lot and I can not very well tell sorry sweety Mommy can't afford to by milk, etc any more.

Re: How long before other prices rise?
I dunno I think Milk has always been comparativly expensive (though I could debate the minimum state prices have an adverse effect) I know for most of my lfe it has been cheaper to get a couple 3liter bottles of pop than milk. (all of it that I could compare prices, but I wont speak for before without research)
