Has anyone here tried bartering in order to save money? Ex. I am a mechanic and I want my child to have piano lessons. I offer a tune up to the piano teacher in exchange for so many piano lessons.

    Any thoughts on the idea?

My husband has done trade-outs before. There's nothing wrong with trying it, but you have to make sure that everyone involved feels like they're getting treated fairly.

I would LOVE to! I'd be happy to exchange math tutoring for piano or knitting lessons, both of which I'd like to learn.

I wish there were a local bartering site for that!

a tune up for piano lessons? Are you kidding me?? If I was a piano teacher I'd JUMP at the opportunity!...Do you know anyone who's a piano teacher? Maybe a friend can "connect" you with one...

I guess my friends & I do somewhat my best friend is a hair stylist & she cuts my kids hair for free but I always give her food or HBA products I get free & she loves it she is thrilled with the stuff because she dont have time for coupons & etc.

My other best friend has taught me to coupon & save alot of money & I will babysit her kids for her & give the kids rides or whatever they need because she really dont have an extended family or anything to help.

And my mom babysits my kids on the weekends for a couple hours when I do demos & my dh has to go to work so I giver her stockpiled items or coupons in exchange for watching the kids

Piano lessons typically start at $10. (higher in urban areas), with weekly lessons the norm. Plan on years of lessons if your daughter shows an interest. Hope you find a teacher or maybe a school program.

A website for bartered skills would be realy cool, I don't know anyone who needs my teaching abilities (k-5 and under though I can do up to 12) but I bet there are lots here in charlotte, I just wouldn't know how to find them, maybe Mrs Chambers can do one to sister her carpool errands site .

There are some bartering websites out there. Just do a google search on bartering. I wish someone here localy would barter w/ me. I would babysit there kid(s) for exchange of rides somewhere or fresh produce or car work. I can also cook, run errands and homeschool for them.
