  • Online Degree

I am wondering if anybody would know how I can go about finding a school online that is legit. I want to see if I can get a degree online to become an RN (no background in nursing). I have been thinking about this a lot lately. I do not have the time to go to school dh works long hours I really do not want to take advantage of my MIL and ask her to watch my kids while I work and go to school, plus I would miss them to much. I know when I worked in the hospital in administration we had a PT who got his Ph.D. online and I just found out that one of my old coworkers went from becoming a EMT to a RN and is currently working and did her courses online. I am looking to position myself for the future. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am going to school online for my marketing degree with a local college. It's about 30 mins from my house. Maybe you can search the local community colleges and universities. A lot of them are offering online courses now.

To be an RN you may be able to take your core classes online but there's probably going to be labs you're going to have to do in person. Also, you're probably going to have to do your internship in person as well. Since I already have a marketing based job, the school is going to let me use that as my internship. Just keep those things in mind.

I think it would be hard to get a RN degree online... where would you learn how to the labs?

I got 1/2 of my degree online. Online classes allowed me to get my associates in a year (one semester I took 23 credits... and yes, I got all A's)... BUT I do not recommend taking online courses in your major. And it depends HOW the course is run? Is it asynchronous? Is it televised on the web (Teletechnet)?

My DH moved us from VA to CA when I had just ONE more semester left in my accounting degree. Luckily I only had business electives left so I took a human resources and some other business elective... I signed online at a set time when the professor was lecturing. Could IM him as he was lecturing, and the exams were proctored by Navy College. So even though I moved 6 months before I graduated I could still finish my bachelors

Toughest learning lesson about online courses? I took my first two accounting courses online... and I breezed by it with an A. Got in a classroom for my intermediate accounting course and BOMBED... I had to retake it. Online courses in my major did not give me the full preparation I needed to in order to do the course successfully.

Sooo IMO, if you are taking a humanities, social sciences, or english course... something that you write a lot and easily read... its much easier (although still a LOT of reading).

If its a math or science course or requires in depth abstract thinking... like Decision Sciences (aka Statistics)... for most people, going in person will give you the most benefit.

I can't imagine that you would be get a nursing degree online. There is too much hands-on learning for that.

I just finished my masters in Educational Administration with a Principal's Certificate online. I am starting my second Masters in Curriculum and Development soon.

Love it. I think it is especially great for teachers!

i'm pretty sure I would be leary of a nurse who got thier degree online. Online degrees are more for the liberal arts side of the house.

on that note, American Public University Systems is a great online school and fully accredited. They cater to fed gov employees and military. Don't think they have nursing tho.
