A heads up...
and FYI-this may be old hat news for many of you, but was news to me. Yesterday, while trying to locate the phone number to have the county come and clean out the 4 ft. deep bar-ditch across the road from my house (it will flood my house if it rains and will require a back-hoe & dump truck to remove all the ice-storm debris in there), I ran across a webpage from my county that explains there is a tax reduction available on house taxes for senior-citizens.
The deal is, you have to apply for it.
I wonder how many seniors don't even know about this?
When I called the county offices I asked a few questions. For my county the age is 65 (this age wasn't listed on the website) and while she was explaining things she also mentioned that our STATE will also refund some taxes each year for seniors, but that again, you must request it yearly.
So, all you senior SA'ers, call your county and state and ask about your house taxes to see if there are any refunds, rebates, or decreases available to you. Seems in some places if you don't ask, they don't tell! I'm going to tell my parents.
Then, get thyself down there and claim your $$'s, and see if you have to apply yearly!
I am also wondering if there are also some kind of city or town rebates available. Hubster isn't there yet, but I'm planning on remembering!
This is above and beyond the homestead property tax exemption.
Worth checking into!
