Oh I can't wait till the day when oil starts dropping like mad because of other alternatives. I know nanosolar is working on making the cost of solar equivalent to the cost of coal. Currently, I think they are producing solar panels at $.99/watt.

      JC,

I agree with you - going off the silver standard has hurt us in the long run.

I do think oil will correct soon though, given fundamentals.

I am not hurting though. . .it's about $35.00 to fill up. Still cheap as far as I am concerned. Still. . .you know how it works - everything goes up when gas goes up. My grocery bill was $220 the other day but then again, we were way out of food and I got a lot of meat.

Ramen Noodles are still 10 for $1.00.

I don't know. . .I think a lot of this is about choice. My office manager travels about 26 miles to work and bitches about gas but she won't give up her Ford Explorer because she doesn't like "small cars." I can't feel too sorry for her.

You know. . .I would consider motorcycling in the name of conserving energy but working CAT scan. . .and seeing trauma. . .I would worry medical bills would offset gas savings.

They should invent impact suits like the Mars Rover has. . .then if a motorcyclist got in an accident, he would just bounce.

It's an interesting theory, but I don't think alternative energies will affect the price of gas at all. Our country is incredibly dependant on oil. The price of gas is going to keep going up as oil reserves shrink and the cost to get oil out of the ground increases.

iam lucky real reason why gas is high

here in south florida where gas is going for regular at 3.35
iam lucky since i just paid off my car now. no longer paying $452 per month.
my car is small sport car that i get around 30mile per gallon so its very good in gas. i only spend each month around $80 so its not too bad for me.
gas has too go up to $17 befor i get crazy inwhich it wont happen for another 100yrs or major events to come. but i do feel sad for many american who is struggle each day. remember real reason why gas is high not becouse of demand but falling dollar! there is plenty of oil on earth for 150years even with china growth. there is many oil and gas discovery has yet to discover.
the main reason is becouse our falling dollar.
with usa goverment high debt , last count of 9trillion+ and counting , low treasury notes, and economy in downturn is main reason dollar is in free fall.

I paid $3.36 for Super Unleaded today. My car requires Super Unleaded. I am feeling blessed that our prices are so much lower then other areas. You would think that in the Northeast it would be more expensive.

I paid 3.60 a gallon this morning thinking it was high... Until I passed other station lowest price was 3.75 or more at those places!!! I am glad I got gas where I did this morning but I am now pretty sure its going o reach $4 or more this summer if it this high already.

I wish I could do a lot less driving but not going to work out as I do not have any other form of transportation (no city bus) going down the mountain to work one way is 27 miles. I would have to be an Olympic cyclist to be able to ride my bike on those mountains!!!

Only other choice is to get a hybrid to save on gas but I cannot afford those cars alone.

If you can get by with walking, taking the city bus, bicycle or carpool -- be thankful you have options as 1/8th of my pay goes to work commute gasoline alone!!!!

It also seems the Northeast has more alternative transportation as well with the underground subways and etc.

I budget about $150 a month for gasoline now....which doesn't last. A year ago, I was budgeting $105 a month and that was lasting for the entire month with some left over. I already use mass transit to go to work; but I have to drive to the train station since I don't live on a bus line. Other than that, I do not do a lot of driving. I don't know how the people who drive the big SUVs are doing it.

Actually S. Jersey is the cheapest - we paid $2.95 today. I have seen NPR say somewhere was cheap in the midwest and lo' and behold I pass a gas station .02 cheaper.

I may start actually riding a bike to work - I work 1.5 miles away and beleive it or not, there's a bike path I can take for 3/4's of it (county bike path). Just one really bad intersection to cross but I have a good straight line view.

You know. . .it's just habit I don't think otherwise. I need the exercise. I used to not do it because of the weather here - it changes every 4 hours. But I shave myself bald anyway - so no more bad hair.

THe only problem may be sweltering humid heat in July. It would take 10 minutes of pedaling to get to my office and I may be drenched by the time I get there.

I'm considering selling my maxi-scooter (58 mpg, 400cc HOV3-legal), if my husband doesn't move up to it and sell his scooter (80 mpg, 150cc, not highway-capable). And the gas-powered lawn mower.

The scoot was a nice alternative to a 70-minute bus trip over 18 miles, but I bus it to downtown now and won't be needing it for probably six months...

Arco gas price here is $3.36/gallon.

Only if you live in a major city - Boston or New York. Living in the suburbs means that you drive your car. I happen to live on an island and everything is within 5-8 miles from my home.
