When I worked at a women's shelter, we also would get random donations of leftover salad, meat trays, etc. from parties - not often, but at least a few times I can remember. We did have a pizza place down the road, though, who donated enough pizza and wings for all the residents once a week - that was true generosity.

okay small shelters that makes sense
I donate to mens homeless shelters and I just give them cash as thats what they want I was thinking if I tried to donate 2 pizzas that would not work out to good 50 -100 men 2 pizzas ;-)

Hey, even if the shelter staff and volunteers ate it, I'm sure it would be appreciated.

I used to be involved with a group that put on gatherings once a year and fed about a hundred people for a weekend. At the end of that time when it was my turn to cook I sent the leftovers to a homeless shelter. I ws told not to because of the liability. I think our sue happy society takes things too far. I periodically buy a couple things extra so I have them to donate, either to scouting for food or to a friend who is on hard times.
