I talked to my husband about this question while we were running errands today. He said even if he had enough money to retire today he would not do it. Because we have young kids at home, he wants to instill a good work ethic in them, and have them see 'daddy go to work every day.' He did say he would seek a position in the company where he was working 30-40 hours/week instead of 50-60, so that's something, I guess. But my dreams of a beautiful garden and lots of time w/ hubby will have to wait until he is 65.

BTW, I'd be happy to trade my $7,000 property tax bill with you.Steve

Well I just graduated college and joined the full time work force under a year ago so I imagine that I would need a very large sum of $$ to provide for the rest of my life. That said, I am far too young to retire and would probably spend some % of the funds to purchase or start a business.

Well I don't work now..but Husband does..if we could retire, he would start writing and playing poker..but I am with whoever said a good work ethic is important, he would still be sent off to write without kid involvement for at least a couple days a week. The other ones we would do WAY more traveling. GMC so wants to see the redwood forests...and Mt Rushmore...and just about everything he has ever read of...

We pay high property taxes but we have excellent municipal services, trash collection, snow removal, very good schools, etc. When we lived in Philly, taxes weren't so high but city services were lousy. I think most folks would have gladly paid more in taxes if they got good service in return.
