Thanks for the advice everyone. I am considering lowering my 401(k) to 4% like some have suggested. As Haku pointed out, I was including my emergency fund when I said I had $20K in savings. Therefore, I think I better build up my savings more. At least I'll still be getting the maximum match from the company at 4%. A house is the most important thing I will ever buy. But then again, investing young is very important too. It is a double edged sword.
Claire, I have thought about what you have said as well and I was leaning towards your line of thought before I started posting about this subject. Because I just started my 401(k) I was (and still am) very anxious to build up a nice amount of cash. It is a hard decision, but at least I can change the contribution any time I like.
