It snows constantly here in Omaha. We pay HUGE taxes every year and still can never get our streets plowed within 24 hrs of a snow fall. We live in a very large subdivision, not out in the country.....where are the snow plows???

How much of your taxes goes to the taxing body (city, county, district, etc.) that does your plowing? You may be surprised how small of a portion of your taxes goes to it. In our case, 70% of our property taxes go to the schools.

Not that this excuses you not getting the services you need -- just throwing it out there.

Are you actually in the city limits? I would expect Omaha to be well outfitted for clearing the streets.

My street rarely gets plowed because it is a minor street and our temperatures are up and down enough that the snow usually melts by the time they finish plowing out the major streets. People complain, but I think my city has worked out the plowing and salting priorities well. (Wishing I could say that about more city functions.)

I don't know what percent goes to plowing but I know about 60% goes to schools. ( we pay about 8,500 a year for taxes)

Yes we live within the city. I would think Omaha would be prepared also, but I am constantly surprised by how little they do to make the streets drivable.

          OP:

It sounds like the taxpayers need to convince ie vote out the government that won't plow the streets. Chicago had an incident back in 1979 with a snowstorm and the mayor was voted out of office. Now the government takes snowstorms seriously and we really don't have too many problems.
