    The good dentist is the one with a regular house and regular car. Making honest money on teeth has always been hard, especially these days. The Poorwork dentists believe your coverage is money owed to them. They just need to find a way to bill for it on procedures you will agree to. Its called patient compliant.
    The non-complaint patients are a problem to these dentists. They are the dentists' adversary. Whole seminars are held to aducate those dentists on how to extract more money from you , how to confuse you when explaining the diagnosis, how to keep you from suing for negligence, etc.

    Also, the dental profession is the number one suicidal profession. Depression is the cause.
    Once again your moronic comments show that you are nothing more than a scum bag. STFU and post something that can be substantiated.

      "Being a doctor (whatever type) was never meant to be a path to riches."

      You wouldn't beleieve the crap I get from my colleagues on that. So I do agree that a dentist should drive a regular car and have a regular house. I do think there is a pervasive attitude of greed and entitlement.

      I have been accused of being socialist for such a comment but here's how I look at it.

      I think being a doctor should "entitle you" (hate that expression because it's loaded) to an upper middle class lifestyle, not an upper class lifestyle.

      LOL...tell that to the plastic surgeons.

          Well, call me crazy. . .because I know I could be put into the group under scrutiny, I think it should be put out on the table.

          Getting consumerism into health care isn't going to be a pretty process; it will downright ugly but I think it's needed.

          Look at it this way. . .a person could have a $5000 dental work or a Roth IRA contribution on the line for the year - very real scenario.

          I think the only thing you can do to guard yourself is be liberal w/second opinions. Make sure the dentist, doctor, mechanic is well reimbursed for his opinion and make it clear you won't be consuming any more healthcare thru him/her after you pay him.

          I think there were mostly positive testamonials here on their family dentist, including me.

            This is my first post, so be gentle..... As far as Dentist go, just because someone has the dds in front of their name does not make them a good person.

            I have worked for many Dentist over the last 15 years. Some good, some bad. It clearly is about judgement, however............ Dentist have the #1 suicide rate among Doctors for a reason. When searching for a
            DDS, it may be a good idea to ask "how many patients does he see in 1 hour, including Hygiene. If a DDS is triple booking their schedule & seeing 2 hygiene patients plus you ...Find someone else to go to. A excellent DDS does not need to schedule more than 1 patient per hour & 2 hygiene patients. Why?..... Because they are already successful and do not need to wear rollerskates all day long, treating pts. The good doc's learn that, the bad ones continue to think green $$$$$. Also check the Dental Society in your area, use the internet, type in the DDS name and see what pops up. Most Dental Society's publicly post info on any charge a DDS or HYG may have. And lastly ..... observe.... watch how he/she treats their staff. If a DDS can be rude to people they capitolize off of, people that make them $$$, what do they really think about Joe Schmo.

                    Steve thanks for the links. Personally, I could care less if dentists or any other profession has higher suicide rates. My only point was that people need to stop posting ignorant comments without being able to back it up. It's amazing how people just believe what other people tell them without doing their research.

                      Snopes.com is one of my favorite sites. I refer to it often, and refer others to it often, especially when friends forward me another inane story or warning that I know to be an urban legend. It never ceases to amaze me that otherwise intelligent successful people think nothing of forwarding these messages to everyone they know without bothering to find out if they are true.

                        I think my last dentist might have been overzealous re x-rays, which made up a good portion of my bill, but I could be wrong. My current dentist does not recommend x-rays unless he believes they're necessary.

                            Thank you for the insults.
                            Why are you so sensative to this thread?
                            This is NOT on idiotic thread!

                            Finding an honest dentist is easier said than done. It's not that simple. Even referrals can be a big mistake. I've finally found one I can trust, but I've also educated myself on this subject, and everything I've posted in this thread is accurate.

                            This book: " The Whole Tooth" by John E. Dodes, DDS is also very informative on everything you need to know to find a good dentist, avoid the incompetents, quacks, and frauds.

                            Check your state's Division of Professional Regulation (your governor's office) and you'll be appalled at the number of dentists being disciplined
                            each month, and it states the reason for discipline. You can find anything you want on any profession.

                            The American Dental Association (ADA) was created by dentists, and its responsibility is to protect the dentists. It will never say or do anything to put down the profession, especially suiside.

                            As far as asking a dental office to tell you how many patients they see in one hour, they'll never tell you exactly, or they most likely will tell you what you want to hear.

                            I've said everything I wanted to say on this matter, moving on ...

                              Poor dentist, I bet their asking the same thing about mechanics, roofers, doctors, lawyers, car dealers, insurance agents, pharmacists, janitors, teachers, politicans, taxidermist, butchers, photographers, CPA's, bookkeepers and last but not least pooper scoopers.

                                I've been hearing that dentists have a high suicide rate ever since I was a kid.

                                I also heard this joke to go along with the claim---but perhaps the joke spurred the claim, not the other way around:

                                Why are dentists so depressed?
                                )

                                )
                                )
                                )
                                )
                                )
                                Because they are always "down in the mouth."

                                Wanna hear a knock-knock?

                                My former dentist did not fill his office with both people he was working on and people seeing the hygienist so that he could dash around between them and fit more people in in an hour. My dentist did all his own hygiene work, so he could know that it was being done to his standards and so that he would really know his patients' teeth. And he did not jack up the price as compared to having hired help do that work. I speak in past tense as I do not have a dentist right now.
