  • Old PBS program, "Affluenza"

Eleven years after the PBS program "Affluenza" was first shown, I have finally gotten around to seeing it. It's been posted in six parts on YouTube. In forums I used to frequent, this program stirred a lot of discussion at the time. Nowadays, I feel all the more aware of the overconsumption that seems to have too important a place in so many people's lives.

If you give the program a try, please just hold on past its terribly hokey beginning scene. It is really better than the first scene represents.

I'm watching this now (never saw it the first time around - just an oblivious college kid at the time!). It's a great program. I'm only halfway through, but had to comment on this line:
"Since 1950, Americans alone have used more resources than everyone who ever lived before them. "

    Wow.
