I've been in my home for a little over a year now, and in that time I have watched as the amount of junk mail has steadly increased. Offers for DirectTV, credit cards, magizines for the previous owner. Just one thing after another and I have really gotten tired of it. Not that I am antisocial, but I really enjoy opening up the mail box and it being empty (I don't mind the bills I have to pay).
What really got me started on this battle was the credit card offers. I was getting two or three a week and just shreading em. Then one day noticed a single sheet disclaimer type page in a couple of the offers with a number to call to get off of the list. I called that number figuring it was worth a shot and what do you know! no more offers for the past two months or so.
Next I moved on to a boating catalog I had been receiving for the previous owner. I called the publisher up, explaind I was not that gentleman, and asked that they remove his name. They said sure. No more boating catalog!
I think I explained how in another post how I have been working on building up my credit, and purchased a table from a furinture store on credit. I pay my bill on time, and because of this, their credit agency has called me three or four times wanting me to borrow more money. I told em the first few times I was busy, or not interested. I am usually not obsene with folks. Finally this last time, I greatly thanked them for the MANY offers but expalined I wanted off the call list, and they were more then glad to remove me.
I got off the phone with DirectTV just now. I will make another post about my stand off with the cable company some other time, but I get two or three offers a week for their services. I know I said I don't use obsenities above but I was stuck in a loop with a machine for a couple of minutes before I could speak with a person and was ready to start cussing at the machine. Finally I spoke with a gentleman there and he gladly removed me from their list.
I guess my message is this. Don't complain about junk mail and info callers, attack em head on, or well atleast ask them to quit sending you their trash. Think of the trees!!
